It was in one of the texts that I read. [He looked at a text in his book called Machiavellian's Guide to Womanizing and recalled that the first rule in the book had been not to share it with a woman. Hmmm, well, he was trying to work this out properly, so... perhaps the name would not hurt?]
I believe the author's name was a Nicolas Cassanova. Yes. But if you insist then this is what we will do.
[What Equius was not aware of was that this book was meant to be rather inappropriate humor on the subject of dating... Thankfully he hadn't read much yet.]
(OOC: It took me a while to think "What is the worst book Equius could ever read about dating" before I remembered that drek existed. God, it was so awful.)
[She didn’t even need to read the book, the name of the author alone was enough to run a few alarm bells. With a name like Cassanova, of course there was going to be a few misunderstandings! Why would you even read something like that?]
O-Oh, I see. Well, whatever he had written to you, I’m afraid that he is wrong. A date shouldn’t have some sort of rituals to follow, it should simply be enjoying the time you had!
But mind if I ask what else had he written?
[And you know? Not get any other misconceptions in his head?]
[[ooc: Pfff, I’ll have to read it one day just to see how horrible it is!]]
[Because Equius really doesn't know any better, and the universe found it funny to make these choices so rotten. It also secretly had to do with him actually being a bit of a closet pervert.]
Hmmm... he informs his readers [Because she was supposed to be helping, so she was an exception to the "Do not tell" rule.] that the use of woof-beasts is an excellent method to "Seal the Deal."
I do not understand the turn of phrase, but it appears to be of assistance in the notion of a successful relationship, yes? There was also two or three chapters on the validity of exercise as methods of flirtation, which I found fascinating. He has something of an obsession on odd body parts however.
[If he was a closet pervert, he probably wasn’t the only one. Still, there was a part of her that wondered if the universe just felt like trolling her all of a sudden.]
Woof-beasts? [The way she said it sounds like as though she never heard the word before.] Seal the Deal? Obsession on bod-...
Well, I can say that he is rather wrong about that! If I had to guess, he seems to be too preoccupied about something else on his mind and...I don’t think that it quite appropriate!
Well, he does have an ... inappropriate obsession with the act of copulation if I am not mistaken. It's embarrassing at points, and I've avoided certain chapters after a few readings. However, copulation appears so prevalent in several of the novels that I expected that it is something of a species-wide obsession for your culture.
[Like it wasn't for his as well.]
At least they did not go into lurid discussions of buckets. [...why was he blushing?] I will cease parrousing this text in this case. I assume, however, that you are glad I did not bring a bark-beast? Are you allergic?
[This isn’t what she wanted nor did she want to have a talk about this so publicly. However, it wasn't his fault, he was just curious and ,for the most part, innocent about this whole affair. At least, that is what she wanted to believe anyway. She didn’t respond and just said nothing for a few seconds.]
W-Well...it’s more that we want to keep humanity going as much as we can. You can say that it’s a part of survival as well as what happens when someone meets up with someone they love. They just want to have a family, that’s all.
[...As innocent as she can make it sound]
Um...no? But what does a discussion about a bucket and a bark-beast have anything to do with this?
I understand the desire to procreate and to couple with one's paramour. However, the notion of families you humans follow isn't natural to us. We are raised by lusi and...
...
[He sputtered, that last comment making his eyes bug out of his skull as sweat beaded over his forehead and he mopped at it. Their drinks were being brought out and he settled for drinking it far too quickly, coughing roughly and shaking his head.]
Bark-beasts are not involved in combining genetic material in a bucket! That would be disgusting! Can we please not speak more of buckets? It feels presumptuous.
[Meanwhile, Fuuka just blinked at him. Was it something she said? Or rather, how is bark-beasts and buckets deem to be inappropriate to him? Whatever it may be at least she knows what he was talking about.]
O-okay then? [She said having no idea how to respond.] I guess this is similar to what happens when you have two people who just got married talk about? [She was being indirect about it but she too was blushing. Yes, this might as well be his world's version of 'the talk']
Then what else should we talk about? I believe this talk isn't quite appropriate so a public outing.
[She mumbled not daring to look up at Equius. Instead, she took a sip out of her drink and just...waited for a cue]
...talk of buckets is always very sketchy with my people. [He coughed and tried desperately not to turn completely blue.] Imagining it implies one's imagining how you fill it, and that's just not appropriate in polite conversation, even on a date.
[He coughed once and nodded.]
Perhaps you could tell me of yourself, human? Something that would tell me more of your interests?
[She still had no idea how buckets would automatically mean that it was a sex talk but she wasn't going to discuss it any further. Let's just move on and switch topics as soon as possible!]
W-Well, back home, I was always interested in technology. I have been able to fix computers and made random stuff from scrap materials I've found.
[She could also mention she's been able to hack into a high ranking company but...]
I haven't found the time to do that lately though. It's just been a lot of stuff going on with the war.
That is right. You are a technophile as well. It is a pity that the lowblood is not about. He has a fascination for computer networking as well. However, regardless... I may have chosen somewhat poorly in this date.
We should have gone to my shop's space and looked at the equipment. There could be some enjoyment in getting your hands dirty, even if the computing materials here are so infinitely poor compared to expectations for proper equipment.
[And, just like that, he had something to gab about.]
We can always go whenever we’re done here. I would love to see what you might have at your store! Even if it might be rather poor quality, at least it might be enough where I can make something? Or figure out if there is a use for them!
Of course, would that be alright with you? Or do you have something else planned?
[And just like that, all the awkward tension just disappeared in thin air]
Hmmm, what I have planned seems secondary under the circumstances. I think that these dates should be what we desire to do, yes? So the question is, would you like to come to my store?
[Better yet? The creepy Aradiabot isn't at the shop, but in his basement, so the gadgets were all 'normal' at his shop.]
I think we have that decided in that case. It is mostly mechanical materials along with some general storage for munitions, but I will gladly show you what I have. There's a few computational terminals I've fixed, but they're all painfully rudimentary here.
Pity Utgard is not available. They have better technology there.
But like I said, I think anything is fine. While I must admit, I did wish that the technology here was more advance, I still want to keep hopeful and that we can make something out of it. If I can make headphones out of some materials I found, I think I can make thing similar!
Utgard is a city to the north of here. It has more active technology than the magic that permeates this location. Advanced technological constructions are possible there, though they do not work properly here.
It appears that each city operates by its own rules.
